OK, I love the stuff that's over the top, too.
And I love the stuff that is so fucking accurate. Your Alberto Gonzalez is so spot-on it's painful.
But the subtleties are the best. Did anyone else notice the arrangement of Dubya's flag pins when he confronts Jebus? That arrangement expresses Dubya's true beliefs.
I love Karl Rove's dancing. Did you ever see Rove try to dance at the White House correspondents dinner? It was just like that. Only, without the gay strippers.
I'm a Brit, so maybe I'm just mishearing the US accent, but it sounds to me like Lincoln says "I'm not a profound man." Well, Lincoln was a very profound man. But he was rarely profane. GIven that Lincoln follows that sentence with profanity, I suspect that profane was the intended word. Like I said, maybe it's just the difference in accents. Other than that, it's a great series. I can't wait for episode six. Please publish it immediately. Or at least before the fucktard in the White House and Darth Cheney start a nukyular war with Russia. That way there's a chance I'll get to see it.
Hey, pla. The intention on Lincoln's line may not translate to the UK. But one of the things Lincoln is revered for here is his humility. So yes, while Lincoln was a profound man, he always characterized himself as a simple man with simple wisdom. So for me the idea is one of contrast. Here's Lincoln, this profound but humble man, speaking with the measured eloquence of his era. The first contrast is between the great Lincoln and his humility in front of this jack-ass (Bush) who literally can't think of a mistake he's made as President. (When he was asked for one in a press conference, he couldn't name any.) And the second contrast is between the set-up line... Lincoln, as we expect him. Intelligent, mannered... but so frustrated by Bush he slips into the very un-Lincoln like, "If I had fucked up this badly in my time, there would still be slavery!" Not a very subtle contrast, to be sure. But I never liked my satire subtle. :) I hope this answers your question. And I'm very glad you're enjoying the series.
Just discovered this site today, the only thing that really pisses me off about it is that I have to wait until Aug 11th to see the next episode. The acting is classic, the ideas are original and mind blowing. Keep up the great work. Favorite part of this episode is Harpo backing away from Cheney in fear, LOL at his face!
